I am now pain-free after 6 years of daily distress.  Angel is knowledgeable, kind, and talented.  I confidently recommend her."

"My experience with Angel has been unlike any bodywork I’ve had before.  I’ve had chronic low-back and hip pain since 2018, and have seen numerous chiropractors and physical therapists.  Most of the time I felt rushed in and out and not really heard.

Angel took the time to listen to me about my physical problems, but also my emotions and fears.  After an acute sciatic flare-up I was afraid of almost every movement I made. Angel gave me some reading recommendations regarding pain and fear which really resonated with me.  She’s very good at explaining what is happening mechanically in your body, which is so helpful in visualizing how to change bad habits.

One of the key parts of my recovery was the dry needling.  I was terrified, but I believe it brought my healing about much more quickly.

“ I could finally move in a way that felt joyful and free again!  I am happy to report that three years after completing physical therapy with Angel, I continue to be able to move without chronic pain, even with the demands of two pregnancies."

I came to Angel after suffering through 5 years of chronic back and hip pain. During those 5 years, I had searched for how to heal, undergoing hip surgery, multiple forms of physical therapy, dry needling, massage, and different forms of exercise. I would sometimes feel some brief improvement in the pain following a treatment but it always returned. I had started to feel despair that in my thirties, I was already looking at a future of chronic pain and restricted movement.

When I started to work with Angel, I was planning to become pregnant and knew that my body in its current chronic pain would really struggle with the demands of pregnancy. I wasn’t sure if physical therapy with Angel would be any different from previous PT that had not made a lasting impact. What stood out as different immediately with Angel was the amount of focused attention she put on observing my movement patterns. She looked at my body holistically, observing beyond my identified back and hip pain to see how patterns in my feet and upper body were also contributing to my problems. She was completely attentive and present as I did rehabilitation movements, helping me to truly feel muscles in a way that I had never before. I learned so much about my body’s movement patterns and developed a new way of moving. Angel was always encouraging, completely present, and made me feel like she was truly invested in seeing me improve.

I worked with Angel for 8 months and saw immense improvements not only in my hip and back pain but also in my overall body structure. I felt my overall alignment improve and the various areas of chronic tension in my body released. I could finally move in a way that felt joyful and free again! I learned so much about my body’s movement patterns and have continued to follow that guidance. I am happy to report that three years after completing physical therapy with Angel, I continue to be able to move without chronic pain, even with the demands of two pregnancies. I am extremely grateful that I found Angel and benefited from her gifted eye for observing body mechanics.

“I am now one month out from my first appointment with Dr. Young and I can say with amazement and humility that I live pain-free. I can walk, sit, lie down, and stand without pain, something I had forgotten was even possible.”

When I first started seeing Angel Young for physical therapy, I was emotionally at one of the lowest points of my recent life: a back injury from a workout class had slowly devolved over the course of six months. What began as lower back pain had evolved over eight months into sciatica, then pain while sitting, and then finally pain while standing — all while in the care of a physical therapist, then a chiropractor, then a sports medicine doctor, and finally another physical therapist. My sleep had deteriorated to two and a half hours a night; I worked exclusively laying on my back or stomach. Two days after my first appointment with Angel I had a consultation scheduled with a neurosurgeon for a potential microdiscectomy.

Dr. Young’s appointment was an inflection point in my care journey. I credit this to her empathetic and holistic approach. She listened to my entire story and sought not just to address the immediate pain I was experiencing, but rather my whole experience as it related to my body.

First was sleep. I explained to her my experience, which she recognized as insomnia: an inability to fall asleep. She first explained to me some basic principles of sleep hygiene but also went on to say things that don’t work (and things that I was doing!). She explained to me a simple technique that had proven efficacy and one that I applied starting that night. Without exaggeration, a few days later I slept for six hours continuously — something I hadn’t done in months!

Second was pain. She explained to me that pain is not just a physical sensation — it’s even more a set of emotions with which we respond to that sensation — and our emotions can both amplify and dampen the sensation we feel. She provided me with follow-up reading that helped me understand that I was amplifying my own sensations of pain, while providing techniques to undo some of those patterns.

Third was life! I was deep in despair at the time when I first saw her; I was living a life where everything caused pain, where I wanted to avoid pain, and so avoided doing almost everything. The culmination of this was that I was very seriously considering cancelling a long-planned family vacation. She reassured me that I wouldn’t risk injuring myself further by going; she also encouraged me to go and helped me understand the positive aspects of going as it related to my healing journey. And sure enough, going on this vacation was overwhelmingly positive for both myself and my spouse.

Most importantly, though, was her treatment in the school of Stecco fascial manipulation. I had for many months bought into the narrative (created by the sports medicine doctor with the aid of an MRI) that my L4-L5 lumbar disc had been herniated, that this disc protrusion was compressing my sciatic nerve, and that this compression was creating the pain I was experiencing. During our first session of Stecco manipulation, though, Dr. Young was able to exactly create one of my pain sensations by massaging one region of my mid torso. I was genuinely flabbergasted by this! That manipulation had no physiological connection to my L4-L5 disc: it thus deconstructed the pain narrative I had created for myself (with the help of medical professionals). It opened me up mentally to the possibility of healing through non-surgical means because I could no longer credibly believe my disc was ever the problem in the first place.

I am now one month out from my first appointment with Dr. Young and I can say with amazement and humility that I live pain-free. I can walk, sit, lie down, and stand without pain, something I had forgotten was even possible. I fully credit Dr. Young with my recovery for two reasons. First, she treats her patients as whole people and their experiences as multi-dimensional, addressing each of them in turn. (This is sadly lacking from so many medical professionals nowadays, who in my experience suffer from professional myopia.) Second, she focuses not just on immediate healing or relief but on repatterning — on learning our mental and physical patterns that create suffering and working to unravel and retrain them. She is an adept, gifted physical therapist and I whole-heartedly recommend her!

“My posture has greatly improved in ten weeks and I feel great. My body feels relaxed, I stand up straighter, I feel stronger and I have no pain in my back or SI joint…. I feel that everyone needs this sort of full body workout to remain agile and prevent injuries.”

I met Angel during my physical therapy for back and SI joint pain.  I was impressed by her techniques and particularly her coaching methods.  Angel’s audio instructions and adjustments are the best I have ever experienced.  She is able to help me tweak my positions so the exercises are very effective.

After our initial course of physical therapy, I contacted Angel so that I could maintain improvements and prevent future injuries through weekly private Pilates sessions.  I followed her to a Pilates studio, and then, we began one on one zoom instruction, which has worked perfectly. Occasionally we get together so we can do in-person work.

Angel emphasizes core work and posture alignment. My posture has greatly improved in ten weeks and I feel great. My body feels relaxed, I stand up straighter, I feel stronger and I have no pain in my back or SI joint.

What makes Angel different than other PT I've had in the past is that Angel’s cues and adjustments to my stretches are extremely detailed and precise.  She is completely focused on me during our sessions, without any distractions.  This makes for a very effective hour, and during the week I copy the program we develop each week. Angel is funny and makes our sessions fun as we laugh back and forth.

I have gained an appreciation for what Pilates can do to help me improve my lifestyle and wellness.  I will continue this work into the future because I believe in its power. I would certainly recommend Angel to my friends. I feel that everyone needs this sort of full body workout to remain agile and prevent injuries.

“She did an AMAZING job, was super supportive and patient and relieved some chronic pain from past injuries I never thought possible. I’d highly recommend Angel… for me it was life changing.”

Over the past 60 years, I’ve built up a number of physical issues, some self-inflicted… others by mother nature. When I first met Angel, I was frankly pessimistic about ever getting relief from my aches and pains. Being a computer engineer, I was equally skeptical in some of the “advanced therapies” she was telling me about. After working with her for about a year, I was humbled and never so happy to be wrong. She did an AMAZING job, was super supportive and patient and relieved some chronic pain from past injuries I never thought possible. I’d highly recommend Angel… for me it was life changing.
